"Slide" means that a paper note is being passed across the table. The player can keep its contents to themself or share with the other players. Notes send as text messages will not be a "slide."

And I found out that perception is in 4e, not the other systems I'm using. I should be using spot/listen checks. Whoops. This is Taylor's third time as a GM, so she gets a pass, but not me. I will be more careful next time.

Taylor: Stein, give me spot.
[Milly and Tamiya look inside Sissi’s trashed room and take a picture.]
Stein: Mmm-hmm.
Taylor: A few moments later, Jim’s patrolling around the grounds. A listen check, please.
Taylor: You hear children’s voices coming from the garden shed.
Ian (Jim): Hold it right there, you kids!
Ian (Jim): It’s forbidden to play in the garden shed.
Taylor (Milly): No, wait! My bear’s missing!
Taylor (Milly): He was right here half an hour ago.
Ian (Jim): Why was your bear in the shed in the first place? This is no playground for children.

Perception is in 5e as well. In fact there's passive perception, things you notice without specifically looking for them, and active perception, things you only notice if you are specifically searching for something. Noticing Millie and Tamiya passing by would count as passive perception, which is 10+Wisdom Modifier in 5e. Not sure about the other systems you are using.
